Jeannie Harrington

May 31, 1943 — November 13, 2012

05/31/1943 – 11/13/2012
Jeannie Harrington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends on November 13, 2012, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was a sweet and beautiful lady to the end. She was born to Ray and Myrel Baker on May 31, 1943 in Ellensburg, WA, and grew up in Yakima, WA, where she graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1961. She attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. In 1964, Jeannie married her childhood sweetheart, Wayne Harrington. They lived in Missoula, MT, where Wayne finished his college degree. They loved attending Grizzly football games, and made their last trip to Montana this past September. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary and defined what it meant to love each other and be best friends. Always popular, Jeannie held the title of Miss Peaches and Cream in Yakima and was elected Home Coming Queen her senior year in high school. A natural athlete, she loved sports and spent many hours on the tennis court. Jeannie was a gourmet cook and generous hostess who loved to entertain friends. She was a talented knitter, and family and friends were the lucky recipients of her creativity. Palm Desert was a favorite winter spot where she pursued her love of tennis, bike riding and enjoying the sunshine. Most of all, Jeannie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who, more than anything, loved spending time with her family. Always caring, and wanting to please, she put others’ needs before her own. Jeannie leaves behind her loving husband Wayne, son Brad Harrington of Bellingham, wife Michelle, grandson Conner (19), granddaughter Alexa (17), son Bryan Harrington of Portland, OR, wife Liza, and grandsons William (11), Jeffrey (8) and Joey (3), brother Robert Baker, wife Carolyn of Tallahassee, FL, brother William Baker, wife Nenita of Tucson, AZ, Goddaughters Megan Zimmer Reed of Bellevue, WA and Paige Zimmer Bird of LaConner, WA. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents. Jeannie was a special person, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Always friendly and upbeat, she believed “a happy heart makes its own sunshine.” Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice, 2800 Douglas Ave., Bellingham, WA. 98225 or to ALS Association, 19115 68th Ave S. Ste H-105, Kent, WA 98032. A Memorial Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 27th, 2012, at 11:00am. A reception will follow at Westford’s Broadway Hall.
