Jerry P. Nelson

September 7, 1949 — December 4, 2022

As we knew he would, Jerry P. Nelson quietly slipped away on December 4, 2022. Jerry was born on September 7, 1949 in Port Angeles to Joe and June Nelson joining brothers Ken and Frank. Jerry grew up in Port Angeles but left after a tragic car accident where he became paralyzed for life. He handled his situation with grace and dignity and was known for his generous nature. In 1977, Jerry married Patricia Pitsch Day and thus provided a cornerstone for her children's lives. Theirs was a long and happy marriage. Jerry worked at Whatcom Community College almost from its beginnings out on Marine Drive. He was also member of the Church of Assumption.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ken, and Ken's wife Anne. He leaves behind his beloved wife Pat, his brother Frank, and nieces Amy and Beth. He also leaves behind four grateful stepchildren, Kris DayVincent (Mark), Katy Day, Tom Day (Sunantha), and Margaret Day, grandchildren Joe Benson, Sarah Van Houten (Zach), Towner Goodman, Jack Santosuosso, Maxwell and Coco Day, and great-grandchildren Ole Benson, Zach, and Grant Van Houten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 10:30am at Church of the Assumption in Bellingham. Burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA.
Donations in Jerry’s name may be sent to Assumption Catholic Church.
