Jessie Figenbaum, age 99 of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2019, just six days short of her 100th birthday. She was born February 15, 1919 in Everson, WA to John and Tillie (Kramer) Slotemaker. During WWII she met her future husband, Merv Figenbaum in Bellingham while he was on Army leave from Goat Island. After the war he returned and married Jessie on November 15, 1945. Jessie was a charter member of Hope in Christ Church. She had a strong faith in the Lord, and taught Sunday school for 20 years. Jessie was a loving and gentle person. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Free time was filled with knitting, crocheting, sewing and crossword puzzles. Jessie was preceded in death by her loving husband Merv, brothers Henry, Neal, Dick, Otto and sister, Agnes. She is survived by her son Robert Figenbaum; daughters Virginia Figenbaum and Georgiann Lakey and her husband Paulino Estrada; grandchildren Jon Lakey and his wife Robyn Kauppila and Diann Lakey; and great-grandchildren Julia, Markus and Jamison. Jessie’s family sends a special “Thank You” to her loving caregivers Linda McConnaughy, Alice Brakke, Jen Roberts, Bonnie Larsen and Rosa McAllister for their excellent and compassionate care of Jessie during the last few years. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Wed., Feb 13th from 2-4 PM. A memorial service will be held at Hope in Christ Church, 710 E. Sunset Dr. in Bellingham on Jessie’s 100th birthday, Friday, February 15th at 12 Noon followed by a reception. Pastor Scott Roberts will be officiating. You may share memories with the family at
