Heaven has gained an angel and we have lost an amazing man. Jack Langhorn, age 86 of Bellingham, WA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in Bellingham. Jack was born in Butte, MT on December 9, 1932 to Violet and John P. Langhorn. He grew up in Bremerton, WA. Jack served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return from the Air Force, Jack met the love of his life, Marlene Hellweg. They married in 1958. Jack started his career in the grocery industry in Bremerton, WA. He was promoted to a management position in Bellingham, where he moved his family in 1965. Jack was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Bellingham Food Bank. Jack loved to travel with his family and friends and enjoyed many adventures over the years. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed a backyard that compared to Better Homes and Gardens. Jack was also a handy man and wood worker. He loved working on projects. He was always willing to lend a hand for his church, family and friends. Jack could usually be found building something with his dear friend, Mike Bates, who he considered a “son”. He loved spending time with his grandson Adam, and looked forward to their weekly lunch dates. Jack was preceded in death by his son Curtis in 2001 and wife Marlene in 2007. He is survived by his daughter Debbie Gwaltney; five grandchildren including Nathan and Adam Gwaltney. He leaves behind his siblings; brother Don Langhorn; and three sisters, Laura Paulson, Betty (Chris) McLean and Pat (Dale) Guimond; his sister-in-law Karen Frey, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. To know Jack was to love Jack. He will be greatly missed by all. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Faith Lutheran Church.
