John A. MacKay, of Lynden, WA, passed away at home on Friday, May 4, 2018. John was 88, born in Vancouver, B.C. on February 22, 1930 to Kenneth and Barbara (MacIvor) MacKay. John is survived by his wife Berta his Britannia High School sweetheart whom he married in 1951 in Vancouver, B.C.; John was a well known athlete in the forties and fifties in soccer and lacrosse in Vancouver, B.C. John and Berta moved to the U.S. in 1960. He is also survived by his three children, Stephen (Carol) MacKay, Nancy (Charles Taul) MacKay, and John MacKay; two grandchildren, Lindsay McDevitt and Cameron MacKay; three great grandchildren, Ian, Evan, and Jillian McDevitt. A private family gathering per John’s request will take place. The family wishes to thank Whatcom Hospice and their caregivers for their compassionate care.
