Col. Johnny O. Gregerson Usmc, Ret.

July 20, 1926 — February 22, 2015

Col. Johnny O. Gregerson, USMC Ret., passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Bellingham, WA. Johnny was 88, born on July 20, 1926 in Scoby, Montana. He was the 4th of 10 children born to Ole and Gertrude (Givens) Gregerson. His family moved to Monroe, WA when he was an infant. During his senior year in high school, in 1944, he enlisted in the US Marine Corp as a private and retired in 1976 after 32 years of service with the rank of Colonel.

His first combat was Iwo Jima during WWII. Johnny was also in service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a life member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Mustang Association.

Johnny was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley and is survived by his wife Barbara whom he married in September 1994; his children, Jackie Schaffer and Eric Gregerson; step-children, Janet Starr, Mary Jo McCoy, Margee Starr, and Joel Starr; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert and Lawrence Gregerson; sister Ann Harwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stafholt Good Samaritan Society in Blaine, and the staff at North Cascades Health & Rehab in Bellingham for their loving and compassionate care of Johnny.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 1, 2015 at American Legion Post #7 in Bellingham.
