Judy was born in San Francisco on January 20, 1928 to Arthur and Edith (Restani) Domingos. On October 1, 1949 she married the love of her life, Richard Schmitt. They had their first child, Karen, a year later. The family relocated to Seattle, where they had two more children – Jeanne and Mark. Judy’s youngest brother Skip, at the age of 12, joined the family in 1958. In 1968 they moved to Bellingham. Judy worked for the VA Hospital in San Francisco, St. Luke Parish in Shoreline, and later for the Whatcom County mental health clinic in Bellingham.
Throughout her life, Judy loved gardening, bridge, reading, traveling, and playing cards and games with family and friends. She was an amazing homemaker and cook. Judy had a wide circle of friends and was a gracious and welcoming hostess. Judy and Richard were active members and volunteers for decades at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where together they counted the collection. Judy also served as treasurer of St. Vincent de Paul for 20 years. Judy had a close and special relationship with her two grandchildren, Ryan and Heather. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.
