Karen Dee Hendrix Sands

Karen Dee Hendrix Sands, age 80, passed away at home in Bellingham, WA on Monday, March 17, 2025. She was born July 11, 1944 in Bellingham to Hugh and Ermine Hendrix. Karen graduated from Bellingham High School in 1962. She worked for years at Peoples Bank and later worked as an escrow officer for Whatcom Land Title. She married Jim Sands on April 15, 2000 in Bellingham. Karen enjoyed painting, traveling, gardening, dogs, and most of all, talking with her friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her son Jeff Hawkins and her sister Laurie McMurry. She is survived by her husband Jim Sands, son Jim Hawkins (wife Carol) and their children Ashleigh, Jessica, Bailey, and Matthew (wife Jordan), grandson Kobe Hawkins, great-grandsons Brody and Garrett, sisters Sandy Butters (husband Vern), and Melanie Blatman, brother-in-law Al McMurry, and many loving relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 27th at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway, Bellingham, WA. Reception following. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation.
