Karleen Miller passed away peacefully at her home on December 28, 2013. She was born August 2, 1923 in St. Paul, MN to Karl and Lillian Mertz. Karleen met John Miller in NY and they were married in 1946, on their joint birthdays in St. Paul, MN. Karleen and John raised their family in Bellingham, John’s home town. For many years Karleen was a tour guide specializing in Asia. She loved traveling and especially taking her girls and granddaughters on annual surprise trips. She looked forward to playing bridge with her friends, entertaining, and her annual trip to Maui. Karleen loved family gatherings and enjoyed her entire family for the recent holidays. She had a love for animals and especially her dog Bambi. She was preceded in death by her husband John E. Miller in 2003. She is survived by her daughters Sherry Miller and Christy (Jim) Thompson, five grandchildren, Megan (Ben) Wahl, Jessica Thompson, Todd (Crissy) Gustafson, Jayme (Mark) Freeborn and Brady (Sarah) Gustafson, six great-grandchildren, Boden, Brooke, Gemma, Sadie, Grayson and Camryn, and cousins Ginny (Phil) Simon and Char Molrine. For family and close friends there will be a graveside service at 2PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, on Friday, Jan. 3, followed by an open house from 3:30-5:30PM at Karleen’s home. Memorials may be made to the Whatcom Humane Society.
