Kenneth Blackmore, age 90 of Bellingham, passed away October 1, 2013. He was born in Coventry, England to William and Doris Blackmore. Following University during World War II, Kenneth joined the Royal Air Force. He flew Lancasters and B-24 heavy bombers over the European theatre and the Aleutian Islands. While serving as a navigation instructor in British Columbia in 1944, he met the love of his life Jeanne in Bellingham and thereafter married. He brought his new bride back to England for the duration of the war. Returning to Bellingham in 1946, Kenneth was a long time employee of Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Company and Georgia Pacific where he worked as a research chemist, obtaining 13 U.S. Patents and the industry Shibley award.
His interests included sports cars and aviation. He was a founding member and first President of the Chuckanut Sports Car Club and was an original member of the veteran pilots meetings at the Bellingham Airport. Kenneth was an active pilot and aircraft owner until seven years ago. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Stanley and William. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Jeanne, son William Blackmore and many loving family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday October 8, 2013 at 1pm with The Rev. Jonathan Weldon officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
