Kevin P. Laakso

Kevin P. Laakso, age 58, passed away April 28, 2023 in Bellingham, WA. He was born December 13, 1964 in Portland, Oregon to Jerry and Connie Laakso.

Kevin grew up in the Canal Zone of the country of Panama and graduated from Balboa High School. He completed one year of college at Western Washington University before dropping out of school to work on oil rigs in California. Kevin had many different jobs and experiences. He was a flight attendant at Tower Air in New York, with a military contract to transport cargo and military troops. Kevin enjoyed his job flying to many different countries and learning about other cultures. After Tower Air declared bankruptcy, Kevin worked on Alaskan ship fish processors and crab boats. He later moved to Idaho and worked on a ranch learning how to take care of cattle, sheep, chickens, and goats. Kevin came back to Bellingham and enrolled in community college. He earned his AA and then attended Western Washington for some time. He had planned to be an English teacher in Spanish-speaking countries. He was fluent in Spanish and liked living in Costa Rica and Columbia. Kevin enjoyed the beach, music, deep sea fishing, traveling, and his family.

Survivors include his parents Jerry and Connie Laakso, siblings Karen Campbell (husband Brett) and Kristopher Laakso (wife Kristine Hansen), nieces and nephews Natasha Campbell, Tristan Campbell (fiancée Stephanie Rager), Kaili Laakso (partner Jacob Mabaquiao), and Kai Laakso. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. We will all miss Kevin so much.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 11th at 11 :00am at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway, Bellingham, WA, followed by a reception. A brief graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Ten Mile Cemetery, 6268 Medcalf Rd. Lynden, WA. Pastor Greg Ellis will be officiating the services.
