Larry Albin Leicht

June 15, 1945 — August 3, 2023

Larry Albin Leicht, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 3, 2023, in Bellingham, Washington, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born to Clara and Albin Leicht in Waukegan, Illinois, on June 15, 1945.

Larry's journey began in the small town of Waukegan, where he was raised alongside his siblings, Scott and Mary Kay. Larry was the oldest of the kids, loyal and protective of his younger sister, Mary, and often seen roaming the golf course with Scott close in tow until Larry left for college. Larry's education at the University of Illinois set the stage for his remarkable career in Civil Engineering, in which he excelled and contributed significantly to the roads, bridges, and parks we see and use every day.

Larry met his match in love and wit when he met Linda Galvin on Washington's White Pass ski slopes in 1968. Their love and friendship grew into a beautiful marriage, and together they raised a remarkable family. Larry and Linda built an exceptional legacy of friendship, exploration, and unwavering support for family and friends as they traveled around the world, making friends in every port.

A man of diverse passions, Larry found joy in various activities. He reveled in the art of grilling on his beloved charcoal grill, a skill he had perfected over the years. He was an avid golfer, a seasoned traveler who explored the world, and an enthusiastic host known for throwing memorable parties that people would travel from miles around to attend. Larry's love for adventure led him to embark on numerous cruises, exploring new horizons with his companion, Linda, by his side, where they explored six continents and well over 50 countries. In his free time, he enjoyed life's simple pleasures, from going on long walks to playing cards and enjoying music.

Larry's devotion to family was evident in how he supported them, planned for their future, and willingness to share advice when asked. He had a special bond with his grandchildren, Drew, Kelsey, Ada, and Lincoln, and reveled in their laughter and joy. He cherished spending quality time with them and often found ways to surprise them with gifts during their visits, tickle them till they begged for mercy, and always make their favorite Shirley Temples with extra cherries. He was integral to their lives, creating deep connections and cherished memories throughout their yearly family vacations.

Larry is predeceased by his parents, Clara and Albin Leicht, who undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping the man he became. He leaves a legacy of love, strength, and resilience, and is survived by his siblings, Scott and Mary Kay, his children, Cindy Segren (Erik) and Tracy Stromberg (Nate), and his adored grandchildren.

Larry's life will be celebrated on Friday, August 18th, 2023, at 12:00 PM, at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway, Bellingham.
