Larry Paul Westman, of Ferndale, WA, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family in Bellingham, WA on the 4th of July, 2018. Larry was born August 22, 1946 in Mount Vernon, WA to Carl and Berdine (Markwood) Westman. Larry was an only child and spent his childhood in Bellingham and Point Roberts, growing up with aunts, uncles, and cousins, getting into what he would call “mischief”. He was a graduate of Bellingham High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71. He spent the majority of his career working with his parents, helping run the office and supporting the amazing crew at Westman Industrial Shipyard in Blaine. Later he owned and operated Washington Industrial Safety in Bellingham with the help of his two daughters. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren, Cody, Tyler and Emma. Larry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To have met Larry meant you knew he was eager to listen, always had a kind reply and always said “thank you”. Larry enjoyed conversation, was quick to introduce himself, tell you a story, and with the added humor, he would brighten anybody’s day. He was never short on words and lived the slogan, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. His new passion was collecting model cars with his uncle Darrell, reminiscing about their childhood and how much trouble they would get into, followed by laughter and some sort of dessert. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is forever remembered by his two daughters, Wendy Burnett (husband Kendall) and Tonya Tawes (husband Brent), grandchildren Cody, Tyler and Emma Burnett, and many loving relatives and a wealth of friends. Memorials may be made to the DaVita-Mt. Baker Kidney Center, 410 Birchwood Ave Suite 100, Bellingham, WA 98225. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Monday, July 9th from 4-6 PM. There will be a private Graveside Service with military honors at Greenacres followed by a public Memorial Service at 12 PM on Tuesday, July 10th at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 2550 Thornton Rd., Ferndale. A reception for everyone will follow at the church. You may share memories with the family at
