Louise O. Zimmerman

Louise Owens Zimmerman was raised in Southern California, with her brother Bruce Owens, by their parents, George and Gertrude Owens. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 1967, Louise, in pursuing her abiding interest in other cultures, began her extensive travels. She travelled across the Middle East, studied ceramics in Kyoto, studied yogic practices at ashrams in South India, and trekked in Nepal, where she met her husband, Seth. At the beginning of their lives together, they lived for two years in a home they bought on a Greek island in the Cyclades, then moved to London, where their daughter Nadya was born. For 8 years there, they pursued their study of contemplative practices and Humanities teaching before moving back to the Bay Area in California. After several years of work in technical writing, she then had a career as a High School English and ESL teacher, for which her alert, energetic, and sympathetic qualities were particularly appropriate. More recently, she loved living on Chuckanut, practicing calligraphy and tai chi, sharing a deep connection with her family in Seattle and California, and enjoying Bellingham and the Puget Sound with her many friends. Louise’s husband, daughter, grandson (Kairo Zimmerman-Goad), and brother are deeply grateful for all the loving tributes from all over the world.
