Lucille Miller, age 87, passed away in her home on Lummi Island, surrounded by family on Monday, December 7, 2015. Lucille was born to Floyd and Eva (Dowell) Adema in Mount Vernon, WA on December 18, 1927.
She grew up in Clear Lake, WA, graduated from Sedro Woolley High School, and moved with her family to Lummi Island in 1945, where she lived the last 70 years of her life. Lucille married John “Jack” Miller on November 19, 1947. She operated Lucille Miller’s Beauty Shop next to her home for many years and was a lifetime member of the Lummi Island Grange. Lucille dedicated her life to the well-being of her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Miller, infant son Michael Miller, and brothers, Frank and Robert Adema. She is survived by her three children, Barbara Miller of Lummi Island, Thomas Miller (Teresa Tucker) of Lummi Island and Marilyn J. Miller of Bellingham, grandchildren Wendy (Karl) Nielsen, Carrie Ward (Matt), Chad Ward, Nick Smith, Sadie Miller and Max Miller, great-grandchildren Kayla Venema, Ashley Swaen (Tosh), Brittany (Greg) Davis, Michael (Amanda) Venema, Matthew Venema, Nathanael Keller, Whitney Ward, Sonny Perry, Cole Ward and Chloe Ward, great-great grandchildren Joseph, Aliya and Elijah Venema, brother Don Adema, and many loving relatives and friends.
There will be a celebration of Lucille’s life at 12 noon on Saturday, December 19th at Lummi Island Congregational Church, 3913 Legoe Bay Road. Reception following at the Lummi Island Grange. Memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice.
