Celebration of Jeanne’s Life: Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church
M. Jeanne Mitchell, age 88 of Bellingham, passed away September 10, 2010. She was born May 17, 1922 in Prosser, WA to Harold and Mary (Kidwell) Mewhinney. She married Dr. Howard E. Mitchell on Dec. 2, 1945.  Jeanne graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital, School of Nursing in Spokane, WA, served with General Patton’s army as a nurse during WWII, and continued to practice nursing in a variety of settings, completing her career at the WWU Student Health Clinic where she had worked for more than a decade.   She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and active in the founding and growth of The Inn. Besides keeping track of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren across the country, she supported two children in Rwanda for greater than a decade.  She was passionate about her faith, Broadway musicals, attending the Whatcom Symphony and any productions by the students at WWU.  She spent many hours tending her beloved roses and getting together with friends.
She was preceded in death by sister Helen Corum, brother Glen Mewhinney, and son Richard Mitchell. She is survived by her husband Dr. Howard E. Mitchell, son John Mitchell (wife Karen Monaco) of Tucson, AZ, Peter Mitchell (wife Maria) of Glastonberry, CT, daughter Karin Mitchell (partner Joanne Roberts) of Mukilteo, WA, daughter-in-law Nancy Mitchell of Longview, WA, grandchildren Jeff, Angie, Julia and Lena, great-grandchildren Quinn and Isabel and brother Ken Mewhinney (wife Betty).
A Celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Sat. October 9, 2010 at 2 pm with Pastor Doug Bunnell officiating.
