Our loving family matriarch Mable N. (Pearson) Heay Carnes, age 96, peacefully passed away at home in Ferndale on April 5, 2018. She was born September 18, 1921 in Pleasant Valley, NE to Franklin and Jennie Pearson. She was one of seven children. Mable moved to Washington after her father’s passing with her mother and younger siblings. She married Philip Heay in 1939 and they had two sons, Earl “Skeeter” and Ronald. Her husband Philip passed away in 1971. Mable lived in Littlerock, WA from 1946-82. She was one of the first female firefighters in Washington State and volunteered for over 25 years. In 1979 she married Mel Carnes; after he passed away she moved back up to Whatcom County. She worked for many years for the Forest Service and retired in 1980. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, five of her siblings, two husbands, son Earl “Skeeter”, step-grandson Charles Mills and great-grandson Brandon Heay. She is survived by her sister MaryEllen Mauler, son Ronald Heay (wife Jo Ann), Ronald’s former wife Ursula, grandchildren John, Jim, Jerry, Ronnie, Cammie, Kim, Jory, Malinda and many great and great-great grandchildren. Mable was well loved and she will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 503 Everson Rd., on Saturday, April 14th at 1 PM.
