Marilyn J Strode

Marilyn Joanne Strode, of Bellingham, WA, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, December 12, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was 83, born on December 17, 1930 in Slayton, Minnesota to Edward and Julia (Johanson) Beech.

Marilyn came to Whatcom County with her family in 1938 where they settled and farmed on the Telegraph Road in Sumas. She attended Nooksack Schools and graduated high school in 1948. Marilyn lived at the YWCA while she attended Bellingham Business College. She married Glenn O. Strode at his family home in Bellingham on October 18, 1950. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage especially the years at their home on Hillside Road in Van Zandt. They had three children, Cheryl (Chuck) Bowhay, Michael Strode, and Julie Taylor.

Marilyn enjoyed her job as receptionist and medical records clerk at Shuksan Health Care Center.
Some of her favorite activities included hiking, line dancing, quilting, and spending time with her family.

Marilyn was an active member of Rome Community Bible Church. She served faithfully in many areas including the nursery and Joy and Gleaners Ladies Groups.

In addition to her children Marilyn is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; her sisters Jackie (Jim) Bailey and Carol D’Haitre; and her brother Curtis (Steven Frank) Beech and sister-in-law Dana Haddock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of WA, Hospice, Rome Community Bible Church or First Baptist Church in Bellingham.

The family wishes to thank Hospice and private caregivers, Dori and Cassie, for their wonderful care.

Viewing will be Saturday, December 20th at 10:30 AM at Rome Community Bible Church until service time at 11:00 AM with reception following.
