Obituary
Marjorie Ann Duncan, age 95 of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2010. She was born to Agnes and Noah Heller at her grandparent’s home in Bellingham. She lived her early years in Columbia Valley where her father worked at the cement plant. They later moved to the family farm near Silver Lake. She walked through the woods to elementary school in Columbia Valley and later graduated from Maple Falls High School. She met and married Bruce Larson in 1934 and they had a son, William “Bill” and a daughter Margaret “Maggie.” In 1944 Bruce died as a result of an injury while working for the railroad and Marjorie returned to her parent’s home at Silver Lake with her two children. She worked at the Maple Falls General Store where she met and married the new owner, Cecil Duncan, in 1945. After operating the store for 5 years, they moved to Bellingham. Marjorie worked in Fairhaven at the Mayflower Grocery Store. In 1954 they decided to fulfill their dream and opened a hunting and fishing resort at Nimpo Lake, B.C. They built and operated the resort for 15 years and enjoyed their winters in Yuma, AZ. They sold the resort and retired to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1969. In 1993 they moved back to Bellingham to be closer to their family.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Bill Larson (Ruth) of Renton; daughter Maggie (Bud) Swanson of Bellingham; brothers Jack Heller (Dorothy), Frank Heller (Gertrude), and Robert Heller; sisters Dorothy Courtman and Marian Stangeland; 7 grandchildren Shari Lienau, Kurt Swanson, Erik Swanson, Machelle Steele, Wil Larson, Roni Nielsen, and Barbara Larkin; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Bruce Larson and Cecil Duncan and sister Ellen Wight.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Whatcom County or the charity of your choice. A Vigil will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sunday, April 25 at 3 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption on Monday, April 26 at 10:30 AM followed by a reception.
