Mark B. Mallett, age 46, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011. He was born December 21, 1964 in Rochester, NH to Norman and Sandra Mallett. Mark grew up in Rochester, NH, graduated from Spaulding High School in 1983, and earned his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 1987. Mark loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time bicycling, canoeing, fishing, hiking, and gardening. Mark will be remembered for how much he loved his children, his easy-going nature, his love of adventure, and his wild and wonderful sense of humor. Mark was a great storyteller. He laughed a lot, and he had a great laugh. He was particularly good at winding children up, especially on the night before Christmas. He had the best voices for reading aloud to his kids. Mark will be remembered for his generosity. As a child he would always offer a toy. As an adult he would always help a friend. On the AIDS Ride he was forever stopping to help fix a flat, or to give a friend a push up the hill. From “Pirate Mark” to Professor Snape, he delighted us with his lifelong love of a good costume. He was good with his hands. He had a real talent with, and affection for, mechanical things. He was a good potter, and he loved to make fresh bread and to share it. Mark loved racing Ducati motorcycles, especially the thrill of riding as the “monkey” in the sidecar. He was afraid of heights but climbed trees (and mountains) anyway. He loved animals, especially his dogs Simba and Hudson. He is remembered for wrestling with his Uncle Pete in Dodge Pond, for sneaking out to light fireworks with his cousin Dave, for thrilling and scaring his cousin Andy on his motorcycle, for tobogganing down the hill, and for being a good friend. Mark was preceded in death by his brother Rick Mallett, his father Norman Mallett, grandparents Robert and Ruth Bogert, his aunt Sally Leach and his aunt Betty Bogert. Mark is survived by his children, Bella and Sam, and their mother Jen; his partner Paulina Gauthier, his mother Sandy and her husband Mark Turner; his brother David Mallett; his uncle and godfather Peter Bogert and his aunt Jeanne Bogert. Mark will be missed by many, many friends and family members. His cousin Cheryl Lovato Niles and her husband Peter Niles, cousins David Lovato and Andrew Bogert, and honorary family members Dale McKinnon and Berns Portervint, are especially grieved. A family gathering will be held. Memorials may be made to the Mallett Family Fund at the WECU (Whatcom Educational Credit Union) bank. A direct link to that memorial is:
