Mary S. Bruce, age 90 of Bellingham, WA passed away May 11, 2013. Mary was born on November 25, 1922 in Hamilton, Scotland to Matthew and Agnes Brown. She joined the RAF (Royal Air Force) at 17 and worked in the Air Sea Rescue Unit. Just after the war she met William Duncan Bruce and they were married in 1948. In 1951 they moved to Ontario, Canada and in 1952 to Michigan. First they lived in various Detroit suburbs until they bought a farm in Lapeer, MI. In retirement Mary and William bought a motor home and toured the country for almost 2 years before finally stopping in Port Townsend, WA where they lived until 2004. After her husband William passed away in 2004 she moved to Bellingham to be closer to her family. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband William Duncan Bruce, parents Matthew and Agnes Brown and her brother Matthew Brown. She is survived by her daughters Irene (husband Joseph) Hathaway, their children Alexandra and Mary, Victoria Bruce Hotson and her children, Elizabeth and William. Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to the Michigan Humane Society.
