Mary Lou Hinds, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Whatcom Hospice House. She was born February 22, 1927 in Granite Falls, WA to James and Katherine Ashe. Mary Lou grew up in Bellingham and attended Assumption and Bellingham High schools. She trained as a nurse at Providence Hospital in Seattle and served in the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with the family and trips to Kauai. She was a faithful and devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Hinds, son William “Bo” Sands and sisters Helen Ashe and Kathleen Bolster. She is survived by her sons Jim (Karen) Sands and John (Rhonda) Sands and daughter Katie Sands, grandchildren Jason & Brett (Fysah) Sands, Frank (fiancée Abby) Sands, Michelle (Nick) Palmer, Tony, Bobbie and Aaron Hines, sister Patty (Dick) Huntley, and many more nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful and thoughtful people with Hospice and Hospice House. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice. A Vigil Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home at 7 PM on Tuesday, September 10th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 12:10 PM on Wednesday, September 11th. A reception will follow at the Church.
