Mary Onyon, age 89, of Blaine, WA, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2013, in Bellingham, WA. “May,” as she was known by family and friends, was born in December of 1923, in Port Glasgow, Scotland, to William and Jessie Lennox. She immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1924. She married the late Edward “Ted” Onyon on May 1, 1943, in Toronto; a marriage of nearly 70 years. The couple moved to Southern California with their four children in 1957, and later to Fresno, CA, and then Nogales, AZ, before retiring to Blaine in 1989. Mary enjoyed her years as a member and officer with Lions Club and Rebecca Lodge, genealogy, travel, and reading. She took great satisfaction with her years of employment with Union Bank in Southern California. Mary was engaging, passionately loyal and very proud of her five-generation family. Mary was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in March of this year, sister Johan, brothers Edward, Robert and Jack, grandson James Edward Onyon and great-grandson Steven McFarland. She is survived by children Edward (wife Bonnie) Onyon of Blaine, Rob (wife Lenore) Onyon of Blaine, Doug Onyon (wife Gloria Richards) of Simi Valley, CA, Mary (husband Bill) Valk of Clovis, CA, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, sisters Sadie and Joyce, brother David, and many loving relatives and friends throughout the United States, Canada, England and Scotland. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine. Memorials may be made to the Blaine Senior Center, 763 ‘G’ Street, Blaine, WA 98230 or Grace Lutheran Church (Memorial Fund), 702 ‘G’ Street, Blaine, WA 98230.
