Mary Lou Richardson passed away in Bellingham, WA, on April 4, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born in Bellingham to Chet and Louisa (Smithson) Roland on October 9, 1927 and lived her entire life in Whatcom County. She graduated from Bellingham High School where she met the love of her life, Walter Richardson, to whom she was married for nearly 60 years.
Mary Lou loved God and God loved her. She was a member of and attended Cordata Presbyterian Church. She loved her husband, family, adopted family, and dear friends. Mary Lou enjoyed time spent in her garden and working on art and her other hobbies. She was a founding member of the local Gluten Intolerance Support Group and was a Certified Laughter Leader with the World Laughter Tour, which promotes laughter therapy.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; and her brother, Chet Roland.
Survivors include her children, Ken (Susan), Mark (Susan), Rosemary (David Gale), and Scott (Lori); grandchildren, Ryan (Angie) Richardson, Robyn (Lisa) Johnson, Adam Richardson, Andrew Richardson, Matthew (Kimi) Richardson, Michael (Cynthia) Richardson, Steven (Nikki) Gale, and Samuel (Desiree) Gale; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Clara, Bianca, Maddie, Christopher, James, Walter, Arthur, and Linus; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Her family would like to thank her Visiting Angel, Phyllis, the staff at Cordata Court, and the nurses at Whatcom Hospice for their loving care of mom.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, April 25 at Westford Funeral Home in Bellingham. A reception will follow across the street at Broadway Hall. She will be laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale.
