Our loving family matriarch, Mary Ellen (Pearson) Mauler, age 94, passed away peacefully at home in Ferndale on January 14, 2019. She was born July 5, 1924 in Pleasanton, NE to Franklin and Jennie Pearson; one of seven children.
Mary Ellen moved to Washington with her mother and siblings after her father's passing. She married Errol Mauler on March 11, 1942, and they had two sons, Dennis and Tom. Her husband passed away in 1982.
She and her husband had a poultry farm until his retirement. For a few years in the early fifties they ran the "Roundhouse Cafe" in Lynden; later on they had the "Eat n Eat" restaurant in Marietta. From 1967 to 1973 they had a coffee shop at the Whatcom County Courthouse. In 1973 Mary Ellen started work as a kitchen helper at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home in Ferndale, from where she retired in 1989. Her family still owns the farm.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, and her husband. She is survived by her sons, Dennis and Tom (wife Tina) Mauler, grandchildren Tammie Phillips (husband Ron), Katie Pessl, Donald Mauler and Larry Kent, and great-grandchildren Thomas, Ryan, Troy, Cody, and Curtis Phillips, and Collin Kent.
She was a huge Mariners fan; enjoyed nights out with her husband and siblings dancing at the Cocoanut Grove, Sunday family dinners at Chicken Lee's Restaurant, fish and chips, clam chowder and strawberry sundaes, "French fries" and Tom Collins. She loved to go to garage sales with her sisters, enjoyed sewing, reading, westerns, and watching birds at her bird feeder.
Mary Ellen was well loved and she will be dearly missed. "Love you tight, Grandma".
Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2019 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5977 Northwest Dr., Ferndale. A time for sharing stories and refreshments will follow at 5789 Portal Way, Apt. B in Ferndale.
