Our dear sweet friend Maureen has passed away, safely and comfortably, and with the kindness and assistance of the wonderful staffs of hospice and Angelcare Acres. She will be sincerely and dearly missed by her many friends, co-workers, cousins, classmates, extended family of “youngsters” who knew her as “Auntie Maureen” and “Gramma Reenie,” her sisters by choice, and especially by her devoted partner, John.
Those of us who were privileged to know her will mostly remember her special senses of humor and adventure! (Remember the bungee jumps and diving with the stingrays and sharks?) And she pursued so many other interests: a love of birds and cats, cards with the girls, bicycling, hiking and camping in the Northwest mountains. Maureen was a seasoned traveler (Europe, China, and Egypt, to name a few) who also enjoyed cruise ships, scuba diving in the Caribbean, golfing anywhere, and boating in the San Juans.
After her long and much-loved career with Alaska Airlines, she moved back to Bellingham where she had been born and raised, and spent countless hours volunteering with the Assistance League of Bellingham and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She renewed her love of piano playing and golfing with a passion and continued to enjoy her wonderful friendships with the “brothers and sisters” of ASA, and a number of her childhood pals.
Of course her time with us was not long enough, but her spirit, zest for life, and the love she gave to us will always endure. Thank you, dear friend, companion, and partner, for spending your precious days with us. May you rest forever in the peace that you so richly deserve.
A celebration of Maureen’s life is being planned for a future date. Please check back here soon for details.
