Melvin R. Youngs, age 81, passed away Wed. Sept 8th, 2010 in Bellingham. He was born August 16th, 1929 in Bellingham to Fred E. and Ada (Callow) Youngs. Mel was Past Exalted Ruler of BPO Elks Lodge #194, life member of both VFW #1585 and American Legion Post #7, and belonged to Golden Age Eagles Lodge #31. He attended Mt. Baker High School, served in the U.S. Navy, and worked for 41 years for Automotive Parts Service as an Outside Salesman.
Mel had a big heart and was always happiest when he was helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred E. Youngs and his second wife Ruth. He is survived by former wife Nelda Maakstead and their four children; Fred M. (wife Karen), Lynne Marie (husband Darrell Wills and son Ruben), Marc (daughter Carissa), Brian (wife Lia); 5 step-children from his second marriage to Ruth; Sharon, J.J., Rob, Pam and Jeff and numerous step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM. Graveside committal with military honors will follow at Bayview City Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Opportunity Council, 1111 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225.
