Michael Brugmann,

May 29, 1961 — August 10, 2012

5/29/1961 – 8/10/2012
Michael James Brugmann Sr., age 51 passed away on August 10, 2012 in Bellingham,  Washington. He lives on through his children and grandchildren who he loved very much; Amanda Brugmann (Nick), Michael Brugmann (Rachel), grandchildren; Caleb, Natalie, Jacob, Lillian, and soon to be expected, baby Ryder. Mike is also survived by his parents Lewis and Mary as well as his brothers and sister; David, Johnny, Matt and Cindy. Mike also leaves behind his dear friend and close companion Josie “JuJu Bean” his Chihuahua who he loved and cared for very much.
Mike was born in San Diego, California on May 29th, 1961 and lived in California throughout his childhood. He moved to Bellingham in 1979, it was shortly after then that he met his wife of 25 years, Cindy McGrady Brugmann. Together Mike and Cindy raised their children, and built a wonderful life together. The family home had an open door standard, and everyone was always welcome. Mike loved entertaining, cooking and spending with time with his family and friends. Mike had a wonderful sense of humor, always had a story to tell and was constantly looking for ways to have fun. He was a very generous man and was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mike also had a very special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and he was truly loved by them.
Mike was a hard worker and good provider for his family. In 1989 he started Northern Rockeries, which he owned and operated for many years. Mike was an expert mason, a true craftsman and an amazing artist in his work. Northern Rockeries proved to be a successful business, and Mike found great joy and took pride in his work, creating his rock sculptures.
In 2006, Mike was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy (heart failure) and was no longer able to work. Forced into an early retirement, and a lot of spare time on his hands, he was able to spend his time focusing on his hobbies (which included painting, beading, rock etching and many other forms of art), and spending time with his precious children and grandchildren.
Though the last few years of Mike’s life were his most challenging, he has brought an abundance of happiness and wonderful memories to all of us who knew him and loved him.
Mike, you have given your friendship and love, touching all who knew you with your free spirit, generous nature and heart of gold. You have taught so many, so much and we will miss you very, very much.
Our family would like to thank a few people that were a part of Mike’s life towards the end and were there for him on his final days. Thank you to the ladies at Hospice; Chaplain Mary, Social Worker Lisa and his nurse Helene. Helene, you were amazing. Thank you for your patients and care you always took extra time with Mike and listened to his stories, you went above and beyond for him many times and you truly have a big heart, we appreciate everything that you have done for him.
