It is with deep sorrow that we announce the loss of a dearly loved one, Michel Abi-Farah, age 79. He passed away at home in Bellingham on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Michel was born on June 28, 1943 in Kfaraakka, Lebanon to Jamal and Almaza (Boulos) Abi-Farah. He attended the entirety of his elementary and high school years at the Brothers Mont Lassale school in Tripoli, Lebanon. Soon after, he left for France to attend medical school in Tours, France. However, after three years, he soon realized that medicine was not his true calling. Upon returning to Lebanon, he decided to pursue law studies at the Université Saint Joseph in Beirut, where he graduated with a master’s degree in law. After practicing law in Lebanon until the beginning of the Civil War, he began working with a French company in Saudi Arabia which moved him to Paris, France where he worked as a legal advisor on international contracts. It was while working on one of these contracts in 1978 that he met his beloved wife, Nina. It was love at first sight and they married a little over a year later.
In 1987, Michel moved to the United States so that he could be close to a large part of his family. In Bellingham, WA he started his own business, which he ran for over thirty years.
He was a wise and generous man that was never short on kind words and a warm smile for every friend and stranger that he encountered. His daily habit of waving and greeting every neighbor that walked by his home will be deeply missed. He found happiness in classical music, poetry, philosophy, and old Hollywood and science fiction movies. A smooth glass of Macallan whisky, multiple visits to Brewed Awakening for a shot of espresso, French food and spending time with his family brought him endless joy throughout his life.
Michel is survived by his wife Nina Abi-Farah, daughter Soraya, son-in-law Kevin Carter, grandchildren Mischa and Luca, his sister Nouhad Nassif and nieces and nephews Nader Nassif, Samer Nassif, and Yasmine Nassif Miranda, as well as many loving relatives from the Boulos and Abi-Farah families. A trisagion prayer service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28th at 6 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, July 29th at 12 Noon. Committal following at Greenacres Memorial Park.
