Mona Margaret Davis passed away at home on July 15, 2024. She was 48 years old. Mona will be remembered for her contagious laugh, which was the hallmark of her personality. Her motto was, “work hard, play harder,” and she found a way to make any situation more fun.
Mona was born on August 20, 1975 in Durango, CO to Stephen and Carol (Liburdy) Davis. They soon moved to Eagle River, AK, where Mona had fond memories of growing up. She was smart, curious, and adventurous, and spent her childhood fishing with her dad and playing with her younger sister, Cari.
In 1987 the Davis family moved to Bellingham, WA where Mona attended Whatcom Middle School, graduated from Sehome High School, and put down roots. She was an avid snowboarder and loved being on the water, especially going out on her dad’s commercial crabbing boat. Mona ALWAYS caught the biggest fish in the boat, no matter where she was.
In 2000 Mona met her future husband, Mike Davis (who coincidentally shared her last name), at the classic 3-B Tavern on State Street. They hit it off immediately. Mike and Mona traveled around the U.S. and abroad in the refinery business, exploring new places together. They were married on August 16, 2008 in Bow, WA. Their home base was Bellingham, but they continued to travel for work together. Mona worked as a refinery mechanic and made friends everywhere she went.
Besides her friends and family, Mona’s great love was dogs. She was a dog mom to Bart and Baker, her beloved German Shepherds. She could often be found cheering on her favorite sports teams at home with Mike and her pups. Mona was a talented cook and loved to share a delicious meal and a glass of wine with those she loved most.
Mona is preceded in death by her mother, Carol, in 2015. Survivors include her husband, Mike; sister, Cari Chan (Ficus); father, Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews. We will miss you, Mo.
A celebration of Mona’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 28 at the Squalicum Boathouse (2600 N. Harbor Loop Dr, Bellingham). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Whatcom Humane Society.
