Monika Burrows

August 19, 1943 — July 19, 2012

08/19/1943 – 07/19/2012
Monika Maria Burrows was called home to the Lord in the early morning hours of  July  19th, 2012. She was born to Helmut and Lucie Herder in Berlin, Germany, on August 19, 1943. She met her former husband, Anthony Burrows, in Berlin while Anthony was serving with the U.S. Army. They married in 1962, and in that same year, Monika became a naturalized U.S. citizen, and they moved back to Washington State. She was a longtime resident of Whatcom County for over 48 years.
Monika had retired from many years of employment with Fred Meyer in 2010 where she left many good friends and colleagues. She loved life, and she enjoyed such hobbies as watching baseball. Most of all, she loved her family and being a grandmother. Her most precious time was spent with her four grandchildren and their activities.
Monika was preceded in death by her parents, Helmut and Lucie Herder, her older brother, Wolfgang Herder, of Berlin, Germany; and her youngest son, Andrew Burrows, of Ferndale. She is survived by her oldest son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Janet Burrows, of Lynden; her daughter, Christina Burrows, of Lynden; her grandchildren, Caroline, Caitlin and Matthew Burrows, of Lynden, her grandson, Christopher Burrows, of Lake Stevens; her former husband, Anthony Burrows, of Bellingham, her good friend Sieglinde Jung of Griesheim, Germany, as well as many other relatives and good friends here in Washington and in Germany.
A Celebration of Monika’s Life will be held on Friday, July 27th 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Westford Funeral Home in Bellingham. A reception will follow.
