Nicholas William Flacco Jr., age 81, went home to his Lord and Savior on August 10, 2024. He will be joining his beloved wife, Christine, who preceded him into heaven.
Nick was born in Pennsylvania to Nicholas and Mary Jo “May” Flacco. Nick and Christine eloped and were married on February 2, 1964, and their marriage was blessed by the Catholic Church soon thereafter. Together they raised their two children, Tim and Nicol. Nick was a Vietnam era veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and was in the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work for P&H as a trouble shooter. He had a no-nonsense approach and soon worked his way up the ranks from sales and service to management. He also launched his own crane company, Seattle Crane & Hoist, which was later sold to Kranco Crane.
Nick and his family were active together in camping, which was only a precursor to sailing. Eventually, Nick and Christine lived aboard their sailboat called the Scarlett O’ Hara. They were active members of various sailing clubs and golf clubs, and were involved in their Sudden Valley community. Nick was an avid runner, running his first marathon in his early 60’s, and a half marathon the day after he turned 81. Nick was the type of person who always gave second chances and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, and sister, Diane.
He is survived by his children, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 10am at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale.
