Norma (Ellingson) Bartleson was born July 7, 1914 in Bellingham to Leonard & Anna Ellingson.  She graduated from Meridian High School, and then St. Luke’s General Hospital School of nursing in 1936.  Norma entered the Navy Nurse Corps on August 26, 1940.  She attended George Washington University from 1943-1944, and then served in WWII and the Korean War.  Her duty stations included: Bremerton and Whidbey Island, WA; Treasure Island and Oceanside, CA; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, D.C.; St. Albans, NY; Overseas stations; Pearl Harbor, HI; Shanghai and Tsingtao, China; Subic Bay, Philippine Islands; and the hospital ship USS Repose.  Norma retired March 1963 with rank of Commander.  She married Edward Bartleson on February 26, 1981.  Norma was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Navy Nurse Corps Assn, and Retired Officers Assn.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Bartleson in 2006; brothers Erling, Lief, and Herman; sister June Grove; nephew Scott Ellingson; and grandnephew Justin Grove.  She is survived by niece Diane (Paul) Jones; nephews Kent (Pam), Mark (Abby), Dennis (Joyce) Ellingson, Gerald (Judy) and Jeff (Wendy) Grove; 14 great-grandnieces and nephews; 10 great-great-grandnieces and nephews, numerous relatives in Norway, two step-children; Jean Bartleson and John (Lori) Bartleson, and granddaughter Kira Bartleson.
Memorials may be made to Central Lutheran Church or Hospice of Whatcom County.  Special thanks to Bellingham Health Care, Whatcom Hospice, and Neil and Clarice Solvik for their special care of Norma. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Thursday, April 21st from 3-5 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Central Lutheran Church on Friday, April 22nd at 11:00 am followed by a reception at the church. Committal with military honors to follow at Greenacres Cemetery.
