Obert Schilke, age 88 of Bellingham, WA went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 3, 2014 in Everson, WA. He was born May 11, 1925 in Wildrose, ND to William and Esther Schilke. Obert served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48 on the Admiral’s flagship. He married Helen Schliebe on January 10, 1948. Obert owned and operated a dairy farm in Port Angeles, WA for 22 years. He then longshored until retirement. He enjoyed many different interests including fishing, travel, house building and mechanical work on everything from cars to lawn mowers to tractors. He enjoyed operating equipment during haying season on his son’s farm until he was 87. He was always the happiest when he was busy working on a project and we are sure he is in heaven working on something right now. Any time spent with Obert turned into an adventure and resulted in a lot of entertaining stories. Obert had a very generous heart and was always willing to help people in need. He loved his family and his Lord. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Port Angeles and then a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bellingham. His greatest loves in life were his church, his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends. Obert was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen on February 8, 2014 and his brothers Ardell and Louis Schilke. He is survived by his brother Warren (Marion) Schilke, sister Evelyn (Emil) Pierson, three children Ken (Marsha) Schilke of Everson, Terrie (Dave) May of Bellingham and Tim (Linda) Schilke of Ventura, CA, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank A Loving Heart Adult Family Home and their caregivers for the loving care they gave to Obert. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 132 E. 13th St. in Port Angeles at 11 AM on Monday, March 10th. Reception following. Committal following at Mt. Angeles Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bellingham or St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Port Angeles.
