Peggy Anne Blankenship, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 83 on January 11, 2023. She was born March 29, 1939 in Vandalia, Illinois.
In high school, Peggy met Sherrill Blankenship, and after their first date, they decided to marry. They wed on December 20, 1956 and were together for the next 66 years until Peggy’s death.
The couple moved from Illinois to California and Peggy worked as a USPS carrier to support her family while Sherrill attended veterinary school. They later settled in Bellingham, Washington in 1972. Peggy was an active member of the Garden Street Methodist Church, participating in the interfaith council, refugee resettlement, and the establishment of the UMW quilting group. She was a founding member of Lydia Place and made hundreds of layettes for local newborns. She was the embodiment of generosity, kindness, and sincerity.
Peggy was an entertaining storyteller, with a knack for recalling the tiniest details of her long and full life. Above all, Peggy cared. She will be missed by each person who was lucky enough to have come into her orbit.
Peggy was predeceased by her mother Anne. She is survived by husband Sherrill, children, Liz (Frank), Chris (Peggy), Sara, grandchildren, Katie, Joe, Molly, Blake, Brett, great-grandchildren, Ruby, Frank, Effie, sisters, Pattie and Bette, and brother, Bill.
A celebration of her life will be held as an open house on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 1 to 5 at the Blankenship home.
