Pete Deitsch, age 91 of Bellingham, passed away October 4, 2010. He was born November 12, 1918 in Plattsburgh, NY to Auswell & Grace (Gauthier) Deitsch. He graduated from Bellingham High School and studied at Brown Military Academy and WWU. Pete served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.
He married Naida J. Marley MacDonald on November 16, 1951 in Bellingham. Prior to his retirement from the Bellingham School District, he worked for Brooks Lumber. He was the past president of both the Propeller Club at the Port of Bellingham and the Fairhaven Alumni Association. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club BPOE#194, was a member of the Bellingham Yacht Club and was a past sponsor of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra. Pete loved the jazz music of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, and also classical music. Pete played high school football and as an avid sports fan he followed the Huskies, the Seahawks and the Mariners. Pete loved life and one of his favorite sayings was “I would rather be seen than viewed.”
Pete is survived by his wife, Naida; third cousins Anne Colter of Wilmington, NC; brother & sister-in-law Don & Carla Marley of Bellingham; nephews Steven Marley of Alaska, Charles Marley of Brinnon, WA, and Clint Marley of Bellingham; and niece Connie Ritter of MN.
A Celebration of Pete’s life with military honors, followed by a reception, will be held at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway, on Friday, October 15th at 3 PM.
