Richard "Dick" Bauer

September 16, 1928 — November 26, 2015

Richard Joseph Andrew Bauer, age 87 of Bellingham, passed away on November 26, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Dick was born on September 16, 1928 in Evanston, IL to Dorothy and William Bauer.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Bauer. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth “Dana” Bauer, children Marie Bauer-Woodard (James) and Karen Hays (Mike), grandchildren Angela Frey and Karlee, Abby and Eli Hays, and siblings Donald Bauer, Marjorie Schnur and David Bauer. Dick worked hard all of his life. In grammar school he earned 10 cents an evening delivering meat. Growing up as a kid he delivered newspapers and worked as a bellhop, elevator operator, switchboard operator, billing clerk, and engraver.

He loved horses and always had part-time jobs working at the stables giving pony rides and “clowning”. After serving in the Marine Corps, he moved out to Washington State to work at Paradise Lake Stables. His time there was fondly remembered and often talked about. He spent many years working in the grocery business, and spent some time driving trucks and doing maintenance work while living in Woodinville. Dick and Dana made the move to Bellingham after retiring in 1999. Dick enjoyed fishing, horses and family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale at 1 PM on Friday, December 4th. A reception will follow at the family home.
