Robert “Bob” Nims, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2015 at the age 91 in Bellingham, WA. Bob was born in Bellingham on February 23, 1924 to Paul and Gladys (Lindsey) Nims.
He graduated from Mt. Baker High School in the class of 1943, and immediately after graduation joined the US Navy. Bob spent two years in active duty in Luzon and Leyte Islands in the Philippines, serving on a PT Tender during WWII. Bob came home on leave and married his high school sweetheart Shirley Howell on December 15, 1945.
He leaves his loving wife Shirley of 69 years; daughter Sandra (Lloyd) Martindale; sons Ken (Cindy) Nims and Jeff (Rena) Nims; 5 grandchildren, Lori (Walt) Pritchard, Lisa (Sergey) Kovalenko, Tasha Edenholm, Kelly Eubanks and Paul (Aricia) Nims; 13 great grandchildren; brother Carl (Elaine) Nims; many cousins including his very special cousin and friend Ken Cowden.
Bob was head auto mechanic at Mt. Baker Motors before he became a car salesman for Dewey Griffin. After retirement, he enjoyed selling cars part-time for Denny Williams and Elmer Radke. Besides his love of cars, he enjoyed many other hobbies. Bob loved to work in his garden and kept a beautiful yard. He was a meticulous mason and built fireplaces for family and friends. He was a devout Christian and served in various church activities. He loved singing in the church choir, including “The Singing Christmas Tree”. Bob had such a loving, giving spirit and in return was deeply loved by his family and friends.
His family wishes to thank the caregivers at St. Francis Extended Health Care for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Spring Creek Bible Church, 567 E. Kellogg Road, Bellingham, WA 98226.
