Robert “Bob” Reid, age 86, passed away peacefully at home in Bellingham on Monday, December 5, 2016. Bob was born to Russell and Ranghild (Newlean) Reid on January 23, 1930 in Bellingham.
He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1948 and graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business. Bob married Grace Rocke on September 30, 1950 in Bellingham. He worked in Seattle until returning to Bellingham to purchase the family business, Reid Boiler Works, in 1958. Bob was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi at the UW, Washington Athletic Club, Rotary Club of Bellingham, Bellingham Yacht Club, and served as a board member and chairman of the State of Washington Boiler Board.
Bob was preceded in death by his eldest daughter Christine and his granddaughter Michelle Grace Fay. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace, daughters Georgene Reid, Susan (Jim) Fay, Barbara (Casey) Thompson, Karen Reid-Allen (Craig), and Melanie (John) Neate, brother Russell (Judy) Reid, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and son Rick (Tammy) Zimmer, who returned to Bob and Grace’s lives in recent years. Grace and her family would like to thank Dad’s angel Patti Livingston for her compassion and loving care during his long illness. She made each and every day brighter for him. The family would like to also thank Dr. Dave Gavareski for his friendship to Dad. He loved Dad's teasing and always enjoyed their visits. He helped us through each step of this process.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Westford Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 with a reception following at Broadway Hall.
