Rowena “Rowe” Stapp passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was 89 years old, born in Sumas, WA, to Chauncy and Josephine (Hoval) Wells. She grew up in Sumas where she graduated from high school.
Rowe was a respectful daughter, loyal sister, a loving mother and aunt and a thoughtful friend. She was very intelligent, had a quick wit and a feisty demeanor. Rowe had a very successful career, receiving many accolades for her dedication and service. She retired from the Pentagon/Department of Defense. Born in Washington State, she lived the majority of her adult life in California and Washington, D.C. She returned to Bellingham in 2006. No matter where she lived, she was surrounded with a plethora of friends.
Rowe was preceded in death by her sisters, Lorene, Helen and Tootie who all lived in the Bellingham area. She will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Benni Stapp, brothers, Sonny Wells from Auburn, WA, and Gerry Wells, from Bellingham, as well as numerous generations of nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank Hospice, Visiting Angles and Emeritus for their loving care.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice. A Celebration of Rowe’s life will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sat. March 3rd at 1 PM.
