Roy Joseph Porter, Jr., age 80, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011, at his home in Lynden, WA. Roy was born on January 23, 1931 in Akron, Ohio. Roy was a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio until he moved with his wife of 60 years, Janet E. Porter, to Lynden in 2006 to be near their sons and families. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (Akron, OH) in many different roles for 42 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. Roy was a devoted husband to his wife and high school sweetheart Janet as well as a devoted father and grandfather. He grew up in a close knit family of three brothers and two sisters and it was that devotion of family that carried through in his daily life. He knew the value of family, friends, and honest hard work. Among his favorite pastimes was family game time, whether it was cards or dominos. It was one of the ways he laughed, joked, and enjoyed the company of his family. Roy was an unassuming and caring man. He always had kind words for people and all who met him found him to be someone you could always count on for help. Roy is survived by his wife, Janet E. Porter; sons and wives, Rick and Rosanna Porter, Daniel and Lynda Porter; his grandchildren, Regina Porter, Rick and Supharat Porter, Nathaniel Porter (fiancée Jenna Schmidt), and Benjamin Porter. He also leaves his sister, Marjorie Pavkov; and brothers, William and Rita Porter, John and Beverly Porter; and nieces and nephews. Roy is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Porter, and sister, Ellen Baumann. His family will be celebrating his life in a private gathering on April 10th, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation in honor of Roy to a charity of your choice.
