Ruth Debord

November 14, 1961 — September 14, 2023

Ruth Jane DeBord passed away peacefully at her Sandy Point home the morning of Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Ruth “Ruthie” Debord was born in North Bend, Oregon to parents Jerry and Katherine Hopcroft. She moved to Washington in 1967, when she was only six years old. She graduated from Sehome High School and later met Russell DeBord. They were married in 1983. During their marriage they had two sons, Greg and Zack. She enjoyed a large variety of outdoor activities including camping, crabbing, clamming, especially for razor Clams, swimming, and lots of outdoor picnicking. After 18 years of marriage, Ruth and Russell drifted apart and divorced in 2001.

Later Ruth got together with Christopher Quady, the man who would become her partner. They spent 23 years living together in Bellingham, until they moved into their brand-new home in Sandy Point for the last two years.

Ruth’s two boys were her whole world. She would call and visit them every chance she had and showed her unconditional love for them. She would stop by and see them on a regular basis, finding any excuse to come to town and say hello. Ruth’s grandkids, Mackenzie and James, were just as important to her, and she made sure to call to tell them how much she loved them as often as she could. She was happiest when she would spend time with her family. That’s what she talked about most...her kids and grandkids.

Ruth loved to have a good time and got together with friends and family as often as she could. She and Chris were known to be great hosts. Their home was the place to be during football games, holidays, and just for the sake of having fun. They’d always had a lavish spread of seafood and other delicacies. She’d be the first one to let you know of a good bargain and would even buy it just so she could give it someone she cared about. Also, beauty supplies were always at the top of her list. She would always say that your body may get old, but your mind doesn’t. She said she felt like a teen, even in her last days with us.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Kathline Hopcroft, and her sisters, Alice Luce and Blenda Burcham. She leaves behind sons, Gregory Scott DeBord and Zackary Allen DeBord, brother Leo Burcham, granddaughter Mackenzie Sharp, grandson James DeBord. And her loving partner of 25 years, Christopher Lee Quady.

She is loved and remembered by many. God bless her soul. Rest in peace.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Westford Funeral Home, followed by a reception.
