Sara Camlin, age 79, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in Bellingham, Washington. She was born August 8, 1933 in Elkhart, TX to Julian and Lucy Greer, and grew up in east Texas, graduating with BA in Art Education from Lamar University. After a brief period working with Avianca Airlines in Bogota, Colombia, she met Cecil Martin Camlin, Jr., of Florence, South Carolina, in Atlanta, Georgia, while visiting her sister Gladys. Cecil was attending seminary at Emory University. Sara and Cecil married on April 13, 1957, and raised three daughters in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. Cecil served as pastor in the South Carolina United Methodist Conference, as a mental health administrator, and finally as a financial planner. A practicing artist, Sara taught in public schools and continued her study of art at the graduate level at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Sara’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited in Richmond, Virginia and Fort Worth, Texas galleries and are in many private collections. Cecil and Sara traveled extensively and in their retirement moved to Fort Worth, Texas to be near their daughter Margaret. Cecil passed away November 18, 2010. Sara moved to Bellingham in 2012 to be cared for by her daughter Cynthia.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband and sisters Maureen, Helen, Marjorie, June and Gladys, and brother Bill. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Ritsch (husband Rev. Fritz), Cynthia Camlin (husband Douglas Loewen), and Carol Camlin (partner Isabelle de Rezende), brother Bud Greer (wife Aida), sister Mary Mitchell (husband Bill), grandchildren Giles Rhodenhiser, Sara Ritsch, Bennie Ritsch, Cecilia de Rezende Camlin, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2:00 pm.
