Sally Funkhouser, age 78, passed away peacefully in Bellingham on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Whatcom Hospice House. She was born June 17, 1940 in Helena, Montana, the daughter of Julius and Katherine (Black) Strelau. Sally graduated from Franklin High School in 1958. While attending WWU she met her husband Bob. They were married March 18, 1960 in Seattle. Together they raised their three sons at their home on Lake Samish. She later went back to WWU and graduated with a degree in business education. She taught briefly at Bellingham Business College and then owned and operated Sally’s Ultra Fashions clothing store for 10 years. Sally and Bob commercial fished for salmon for many years. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family at their Lake Samish home, their cabin at Lake Conconully, and their home in Indio, California. She was “Nana” to her five grandchildren whom she loved so much, and attended many of their sporting events. Sally enjoyed shopping, baking, dancing, golfing and traveling. She was always the life of the party! She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kip Funkhouser, brother Stan Strelau, and sister Vicki Schrudder. Sally is survived by her husband Bob, sons Rob (Trina) and Mark (Leslie) grandchildren Ellie, Nathan, Bobby, Lucas and Matthew, sister Sandy Bailey, and many loving relatives and friends. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at Squalicum Boathouse on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 am.
