Just shy of her 68th birthday, Sharon Chandler lost her battle with lung cancer. Born in Portsmouth, NH in 1946 to Doug Chandler and Ruth “Eileen” Parker, she was raised on Oak Street in Wellesley, MA with her two brothers, Rick and Scott Chandler. She graduated from Boston University in 1964 and continued graduate studies at UCLA. While on a vacation in Mexico she met fellow vacationers from Bellingham, WA resulting in a permanent move to Whatcom County, WA. In 1973, she married Fred Kennedy in Needham, MA and had their first daughter, Courtney. They started their new life in Whatcom County on the Mosquito Lake Road in Deming, WA and in 1982 they moved into Bellingham. In 1975, Sharon and Fred gave birth to their second baby girl, Jessica, in Mt. Vernon, WA. She then began a private practice as a hypnotherapist and as a psychiatric nurse at St. Joseph Hospital Mental Health Unit. In 1989, Sharon married the love of her life, David Hammers of Bellingham, WA. They had a wonderful life at their home by Cornwall Park and at their second home in Winthrop, WA, along with their many dogs and cats. Sharon and David shared their love of racquetball, golf, alpine skiing and yoga with their many friends. Sharon loved to gather with her friends frequently for dinner parties and other social events. She spent her days trying to save the world, one piece of trash on the ground, stray animal or hungry third world kid at a time. She will be missed tremendously and lives on, in our hearts, forever. Sharon was preceded in death by her father Doug. She leaves behind her husband David, daughter Courtney (Patrick) Jenkins and their sons Talon and Rylan, daughter Jessica (Brodie) VanNoy and their children Kennedy and Devin, mother Eileen, brothers Rick (Miriam “Timmie”) Chandler and Scott Chandler (Irene Kopp), and a large gang of amazing friends. Memorials may be made to the Whatcom County Humane Society or your local Hospice. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7th at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway St. in Bellingham. Bring your stories, your appetite and your dancing shoes. We will party!
