Shirley L. Bowden, age 93 passed away January 23, 2013 in Bellingham. She was born March 27, 1919 in Grande Prairie, Alberta to John and Louise Carter.  She grew up on a farm in Northern Alberta and became a teacher. Shirley taught school in Alberta and B.C. She married Harold Bowden and emigrated to the U.S. where they lived in Spokane, Walla Walla and later Kennewick. Shirley taught at Park Junior High and other schools in Kennewick, WA. She enjoyed traveling the world during her summers off.  After Harold passed away she moved to Bellingham and lived in the Cordata area.  In Kennewick she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and in Bellingham she was a member of Church of the Assumption. She also enjoyed socializing with the Red Hat Society.  Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harold, son-in-law Lee, brother Adley and sisters Vella, Elva and Lola. She is survived by children Janet (Phil) Palechek, Bruce (Karen) Bowden and Heather Davis, grandchildren Adley (Dani), Ashley (Chris), Greg (Tracy), Monica, Desiree, Kira and Troy, sisters Maisie and Kay, brother Aurey and many loving relatives and friends.  Memorials may be made to the Choroideremia Research Foundation, 23 East Brundreth Street, Springfield, MA 01109-2110 or online at www. choroideremia.org. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway St. in Bellingham on Sunday, January 27th from 3-5 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption on Monday, January 28th at 10:30 AM followed by a reception. A graveside service will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick on Wednesday, January 30th at 12 Noon.
