Sr. Mary Clarina Burns was born Mary Elizabeth Burns on October 4, 1924 in Caldwell, Idaho to Thomas and Helen (Morgan) Burns. Sr. Clarina died peacefully on March 23, 2011 at Christian Healthcare Center in Lynden. She earned her Master’s in Administration and Master’s in Counseling and studied under the noted psychiatrist John Butler. She has been a nun of the Sisters of Christian Community and was a director of Catholic Community Services. She was also a Mother Superior for 10 years in the Franciscan order and a principal, teacher and coach. As one close friend observed “When I think of Clarina, I think of kindness, concern, patience and faith. She’s a hard worker and never loses her faith in God, no matter how difficult the situation.” Another said “We would all treat each other in a kinder, more gentle manner if we observed and learned from Clarina.”
A Vigil Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sunday, April 3rd at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Westford’s on Monday, April 4th at 10 AM. Officaiting will be The Most Rev. William A. Johnson, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the American Catholic Church in the United States, Msgr. Art Spring, Rev. Jack Miller, and Rev. Liz Miller, Deacon. Burial will follow at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline.
