Susan Matyas, age 84, passed away peacefully December 30, 2020 in Bellingham. She was born September 10, 1936 in Everett, WA to William and Patricia Gowen. Susan married Don Matyas on December 22, 1956 at Immaculate Conception Church in Everett. She and her husband Don were members of Church of the As-sumption in Bellingham, where they sang in the choir for many years. Susan enjoyed reading, knitting, writing, music, gardening, walking, and travel. She worked as a medical transcriptionist for many years and worked behind the scenes at Matyas Delicatessen. After retiring she did volunteer work with Assumption School, What-com Literacy Council and St. Joseph’s Mended Hearts program. She will be remem-bered for her great love of family, and for her wonderful smile which will be truly missed. Susan was preceded in death by her husband Don, and Mary’s step-daughter Jessica Harris. She is survived by her five children, daughter Mary Matyas (David Harris), daughter Anne Bowen (John) and their children Evan and Clara, son Tony Matyas (Traci) and their children Taryn (children Mattisyn and Eve’lyn), Tyler and Thea (children Ellora, Miakoda and Taeben), son Bill Matyas, and daughter Maggie McCleery (Jim), brother Bill Gowen (Yvonne), Don’s sister Mary Ann McLamb, and many loving relatives and friends.
