On the morning of December 4th, 2018 Sylvia A. Hinkle left this earth at the age of 92 and was taken into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born to G. Warren and Edith Wood on December 17, 1925. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943. During WWII she was featured in Life magazine as the kind of girl a military man would like to come home to. That occurred when her school days sweetheart Ben Hinkle returned from the Naval Theater in the South Pacific in 1945. They were married for over 70 years, separated only by Ben’s death on December 8th, 2015. Sylvia had a love for her Lord, family, friends, gardening and her church. Instead of entering the outside work world, she was an industrious homemaker and raising two rough and tumble boys, Greg and Chuck. Her ability to spin and knit wool was exceptional. Sylvia loved swimming and received an award for swimming 3,000 miles. She had a real love of laughter right down to her last difficult days on earth. She was especially fond of her nieces, Cindy (Tom) Roberson and Tammy (David) Yorkston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben and sister Jean (Tilmen) Flotre. She is survived by her two sons; Greg (Gail) of Thompson Falls, MT and Chuck (Heidi) of Philipsburg, MT, six grandchildren: Jeff, Michelle, Gabe, Tambe, Jed and Caleb, and 8 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Greenacres Cemetery on Tuesday, December 11th at 2pm. Memorials can be made to the church family she loved; Rome Community Church, 2720 Mt. Baker Hwy, Bellingham, WA, 98226. You may share memories with the family at
