Tilmen A. Flotre

October 23, 1928 — July 12, 2014

Tilmen Flotre, of Bellingham, WA, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Whatcom Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born October 23, 1928 in Albion, Nebraska to Thor and Rachel (Sunde) Flotre, the fifth of their six children. The family moved to Whatcom County in 1938 after the Great Dust Bowl. Tilmen graduated from Ferndale High School and attended business college. Tilmen met Jean Wood in 1949 and they married, spending 61 years together until Jean’s death in 2010. Together they raised three children, Cindy, Tammy and Tim who with their families were the focal point of their lives. Tilmen had an array of vocations and with each change he made a better life for his family. He retired from Intalco where he served as production manager then was hired as a consultant by Alumax. Tilmen and Jean loved to travel and spent many winters in Desert Hot Springs, CA. In addition to his wife, Tilmen was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Tom) Roberson, Tammy (David) Yorkston, and son Tim (Tami) Flotre; 7 grandchildren, Becky Macdonald, Josh and Joseph Yorkston, Rachel (Jason) Barnd, Travis (Stacey) Flotre, Taylor and Tanner Flotre; 3 great grandchildren, Greg and Katie Macdonald and Lillyan Ione Barnd; many nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice House. Services were held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Greenacres Memorial Park.
